Continue ShoppingI have recently fitted a set of Tufo Comtura 3TR 25mm tubeless tyres on my Titan Vanquish road bike.
Having ridden tubeless tyres on the road bike in the past I was not hesitant to take the tubes out my wheels when I got my bike and replace it with some sealant.
Tufo is quite a known brand in Eastern Europe but they have been in and out of SA in the past so I was not too familiar with the products at first. Comtura 3TR Tubeless ready all purpose road tyre is the one I went for because I prefer the idea of having a bit more durability and protection on the tyre than pure speed or super low rolling resistance. Because of the nature of our roads in South Africa I have experienced probably every type of puncture you can get and also been in a situation where I had to knot my tube just to get home. The tubeless tyres brings a bit more comfort knowing that most small holes should seal relatively quick and will keep your ride going so that it does not interrupt the session you have planned for the day.
Hand-made in Czech Republic the tyres have lived up to the expectation thus far, I have been lucky enough to not get a flat in the past couple of months and just needed to top-up sealant before SA Road Champs in Swellendam.
Each tyre has a unique barcode in the tyre to recognize when, where and by who it was made in the factory.
I have felt little difference to rolling resistance from a Tubular tyre and a tubeless tyre. A Tubby might still be slightly faster but with the rules of puncturing and pacing back to the bunch behind the car being illegal I will much rather be a bit on the safe side and race with tubeless wheels and some sealant and at least know that the chances of puncturing is allot less.
The Comtura 3TR is a great all round tyre with good puncture protection using their VECTRAN trademark puncture protection.
It has great durability and that combined with the good comfort makes it a good tyre choice if you are looking for something you can use in training and in racing with one set of wheels.
